Bond’s Comprehensive Guide To Mixed Metal Finishes
October 18, 2024
Mixing metals is a design trend that’s here to stay, and for good reason—it brings depth, texture, and a sense of personal style to any space. At Bond, we’ve had a lot of experience in combining different metals to create designs that are both timeless and updated. Our #IntoTheWoods remodel project is a perfect example, where Jennifer used a thoughtful mix of metals to give the home a modern refresh while maintaining its rustic character. Let’s dive into how we achieved that balance, with a special focus on the primary bathroom.
A Modern Take On Rustic Charm
In the #IntoTheWoods remodel, the primary bathroom became a standout example of how mixed metals can bring new life to a space without losing its original charm. We started by incorporating a hammered, polished copper bathtub and sinks—materials that feel hand-crafted and rooted in nature. Copper has a way of making a space feel warm and inviting, especially in a rustic setting. To elevate the design, we paired these copper elements with polished nickel faucets and light fixtures. The polished nickel adds a clean, modern touch, giving the room a fresh feel while still respecting its heritage.
Finding Harmony In Contrast
The beauty of mixing metals lies in the contrast they create.
In this bathroom, we played with the differences between the rugged texture of hammered copper and the sleekness of polished nickel. Copper’s earthy tones and hand-forged look bring a sense of tradition, while the nickel balances that with a more refined, contemporary edge. This thoughtful contrast creates a space that feels dynamic and layered, yet still cohesive. The key is in finding a balance—letting each finish stand on its own while complementing the others.
Adding Depth With A Third Metal
To complete the look, we brought in patina cast bronze hardware for the cabinetry. Because why not bring in a third metal? There is nothing to be afraid of, you guys! The naturally aged finish of the bronze enhances the rustic mountain vibes of the space, adding another layer of texture without overwhelming the design. Bronze, with its warm undertones, ties together the copper and nickel elements, creating a seamless flow. By mixing these three distinct metals, we were able to craft a space that feels curated and intentional, while still approachable and true to its setting.
At Bond, we believe that mixing metal finishes is one of the most effective ways to create a space that feels both rich in character and balanced in design. Our #IntoTheWoods project showcases how the right combination of finishes—whether it’s the rustic warmth of copper, the modern sheen of polished nickel, or the earthy patina of bronze—can transform a room into something truly special. If you’re considering mixing metals in your own designs, remember that contrast is your friend, but harmony is your goal. With a thoughtful approach, you can create a space that feels timeless, yet perfectly in step with today’s trends.
