September Musings
September 4, 2024
As we dive into September, the shift in seasons has us dreaming about rich textures, warm tones, and spaces that feel effortlessly cozy. Whether it's in design, fashion, or just the way we're approaching life right now, there’s something about fall that makes everything feel a little more thoughtful, a little more layered.
Here’s what’s inspiring us this month.
Earthy Zellige
Zellige tiles have been around for centuries, but there’s something about them that still feels fresh and modern—especially when you start playing with darker, moodier tones. The deep, earthy colors of chocolate and charcoal zellige tiles have this beautiful way of adding warmth and richness to a space while keeping things feeling grounded. Plus, their imperfect, hand-cut nature adds texture and depth, making them the perfect finishing touch for a space that’s meant to feel lived-in and loved.
We're obsessed with moody zellige application right now.
Reclaimed Wood
There’s just something about reclaimed wood that never gets old. It has this incredible ability to make a space feel instantly warm and welcoming, like it’s been loved for years even if it’s brand new. The rich patina, the weathered texture, the history embedded in every piece—it all adds up to a material that’s as timeless as it is beautiful. This fall, we're resonating with that lived-in look even more, mixing old with new to create spaces that feel both cozy and effortlessly stylish.
Equestrian Inspired Fits
If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of this season, it’s rich chocolate browns and luxe suede. There’s something about these warm, earthy tones that feels so right for fall. We've been loving the equestrian-inspired look lately—think sleek suede jackets, chocolate brown leather boots, and structured bags that give off that perfectly polished yet casual vibe. It’s like channeling your inner horse-riding chic without actually needing a horse. These textures and tones are not only cozy and inviting, but they also add a layer of sophistication to any outfit. Whether it’s a suede jacket or a deep brown handbag, these pieces are perfect for transitioning into the cooler months with style.
If you're around Park City, you might catch us embracing the equestrian life and taking our office ranch horses out for a spin.
Creature Comforts
The key to a seamless seasonal transition is simplicity. We're not fans of fall decorating (We know... come at us) but are far more partial towards infusing the essence of fall in your home through small creature comforts here or there.
Light a candle. Swap out linens for heavier textures like wool, velvet, or knits. Treat yourself to some cozy cashmere socks. Forage cut autumn branches. Turn on your lamps.
Instead of decorating, take the time to incorporate small details in your daily life and routine that create a cozy and relaxing autumnal vibe.
Living Finishes
One of the things we love most about design is when materials evolve over time, gaining character and charm as they age. That’s why we're so drawn to metal finishes that patina and change with wear—think brass, copper, and bronze. These living finishes add a dynamic element to any space, starting out shiny and new, then slowly developing a unique, weathered look that tells a story. Whether it’s a set of brass cabinet pulls in the kitchen, a copper sink, or bronze lighting fixtures, these metals get better and better as they develop a rich patina. They’re the perfect balance of beauty and durability, bringing an artisanal, old-world feel that’s perfect for fall.
Autumnal Hues
While paint colors aren’t technically seasonal, there’s something so fun about creating a seasonal paint palette. We love using color to set the tone for a room, and fall is the perfect time to lean into those rich, earthy hues that evoke the season’s natural beauty. Think deep rusts, warm terracottas, moody greens, and soft gray tones—colors that bring a sense of comfort and grounding to a space.
We love this moody office space designed by West Of Main Design. The deep crimson paint makes this space feel like it's in a perpetual state of September, and we are so here for it.
That's all! We hope you are sufficiently inspired for September and the other upcoming 'ber months. For more seasonal design and lifestyle inspo, check out our Monthly Musings board on Pinterest! K, bye!
