The Court House Pt. III – Built To Entertain
March 28, 2024
If we had to choose one thing we love most about this home, it would be that it was built to entertain! Today, we're touring not one but TWO home bars and officially taking the party to the basement.
This wet bar is situated just around the corner from the kitchen and next to the stairs leading to the basement, making great use of a space that would otherwise be awkward to fill. Since this bar area is acting as a junction for a couple of different spaces, we carried many of the existing finishes and materials into this space to make sure everything flows together nicely and feels cohesive. Our favorite feature of this bar has to be the bronze countertops with rivet detailing. You guys, they are real bronze. We love using living finishes in new builds because they will age and patina beautifully over the years, giving new homes a lived-in character.
Quartzite Wine Cellar
Have you ever seen quartzite used like this? We knew from the very beginning of the design process for this home that this bar area needed a wow factor.
Queue the backlit quartzite wine cellar!
The pictures don't quite do it justice. The warm, ambient glow from the quartzite is absolutely stunning. We used a Cristallo Citrino quartzite slab, which is subtly translucent and has striking copper veining. We love how you can see this wine cellar from the entrance of the home as well.
Let's head downstairs and check out bar #2.
Slabs & Lightbulbs
Welcome to bar #2!
This bar is open to the rest of the room, so we really wanted the design to flow with the rest of the space while still making a big impact. We think we accomplished this with this STUNNING Vitara Crystal Slab.
As you come down the stairs, you'll notice the two matching light fixtures in the stairwell. We created these custom pieces to create a seamless transition between the main level and the basement. Every bulb had to be individually wired and hung, so these two fixtures took a team of ten electricians five days to install! #worthit
Say No To Boring Ceilings
Something we've been very passionate about this year is forgoing boring ceilings. Especially in an open floor plan, plain white ceilings take up so much more of your view than you realize. You can break up boring ceilings with wallpaper, beams, tongue-and-groove paneling, or color-drenching.
Here, we used a recessed T&G paneling and arranged it in a rectangular pattern to create an even more modern look and feel. Recessing the ceiling like this works beautifully for larger areas because it adds structure to open floor plans and creates a visual divide between different spaces.
