Timeless, But Vibrant: Infusing Jewel Tones into Transitional Design
April 22, 2025
Sapphire Ridge is unlike anything we've ever designed before. It’s what happens when transitional mountain architecture meets a fearless love of color—and neither one backs down. The bones of the home are classically timeless: think clean lines, custom millwork, and warm wood tones. But the interiors? They bring the drama. We leaned all the way into bold jewel tones, quirky accessories, and unexpected silhouettes—creating a design that’s as daring as it is livable. The result is a mountain home that breaks the mold in all the best ways.

Blending Eras, Embracing Color
One of the reasons Sapphire Ridge feels so unique is because our client didn’t just like color—they were ready to go full-force. Instead of trying to tame their vision, we embraced it by blending modern and traditional furnishings to create an eclectic, layered aesthetic. This approach gave us a lot more freedom to play with unexpected hues and mix-and-match styles. A perfect example is the primary bedroom: a vintage-inspired rug anchors the space, bringing an old-world feel that pairs surprisingly well with clean-lined furniture and contemporary textiles. That contrast—the traditional with the modern, the curated with the collected—made space for color to shine without overwhelming the design.

Designing From The Ground Up
Another strategy we love when working with bold color is letting a single piece lead the charge. In the great room, it was a floral rug bursting with blues and greens that set the tone. Our client fell in love with it immediately, and we used it as the jumping-off point for every other element in the room.

Mural To Moodboard
In the lower level family room and bar, the show-stealer was a watercolor-inspired mural wallpaper. We pulled orange and green accents from the mural and echoed those tones throughout the rest of the space, giving each room its own personality while still keeping a sense of cohesion. It’s all about finding that one fearless design moment—and letting it do the talking.
