Fresh Take On french: Living & Dining Room
May 5, 2023
The wait is FINALLY over, people!! The reveal of Fresh Take On French is happening at last! We are so excited and honored to share this experience with you all and hope you love it just as much as we do.
French interiors are just as much about design as they are lifestyle. This home is not just a place; it's a feeling - Inspired by easy French living and style with a contemporary twist. Remodeled to better accommodate the way one would live and move through the home.
Here's part one of our Fresh Take On French design series exploring all the lovely design details of the project. Today, the living room and dining room.
Limestone + Plaster
The inspiration for this project comes from traditional French style - so this massive limestone fireplace was a must-have item for the home. The natural beauty of the limestone provides a sophisticated and elegant feel, while the details of the design give the fireplace a timeless and classic look. We matched the soft cream tones of the limestone for the plaster fireplace surround, which stretches towards the 24-foot ceilings.
Because the scale of the room is so large and the ceilings so tall, this space required heavier furniture pieces to ground the space. We love the weight of the side-by-side weathered oak coffee tables and think the chunkier details make the pieces feel really luxe. The timeless Emma Sofa also grounds the space but still feels feminine and elegant.
Built-In Bookcases
lt was really important to this client to do built-in bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. Our Magelby Construction team custom-built and finished the oak bookshelves, which turned out amazing! We love the soft texture of the glass-front cabinets and how beautifully they display the treasures inside.
These particular bookshelves are for aesthetics only, not necessarily function. So we wanted the accessories to be super clean and cohesive. On our hunt, we discovered some pretty amazing Etsy shops that sell books by color! We ordered pallets, yes, PALLETS of books to fill these shelves. We love how collected everything turned out while still being analogous.
A Table For Ten
We had fun experimenting with the open floor plan of this home. The living room and dining room share the same space, so to separate the two areas, we used the same sofa in the living room as seating for the dining table. The back-to-back sofas create a visual divide but maintain cohesion between the spaces
Yes. We know. Using a cream-colored sofa as dining seating is a little unconventional and may seem quite risky. But just hear us out and look at how cozy and intimate it makes the space feel. Plus, the sofa is upholstered in a performance fabric, making messes and spills much more manageable.
It's a win-win if you ask us.
The best is yet to come!
Stay tuned to see the rest of the home revealed, and be sure to follow us on Instagram for behind-the-scenes looks at this project.
